Researching the original photograph
East Baton Rouge Parish Library Black Heritage resources
The library highlights Black heritage resources, including Willie Harris photographs documenting Baton Rouge social life and links to the Baton Rouge Room Digital Archive.
A research approach for this collection
For a gathering or social portrait, search the event, venue and photographer where known. Compare clothing and decorations with a dated collection item, while treating the comparison as a research lead rather than proof of an individual's identity.
Keep research evidence separate from restoration
The institution linked above is an independent research resource, with no affiliation or restoration partnership implied. Its catalogue may contain only part of its holdings. Check the individual record for access and reuse conditions.
Keep an unedited digital copy, including inscriptions and the back of the print. AI restoration can alter faces, lettering and other details; an edited image cannot establish a historical identity or recover evidence that is absent from the original.
For an image you own or have permission to process, compare the result with your original before sharing it. See our before-and-after examples and photo restoration guides for further context.
