Photo Restoration Cost: AI and Professional Prices in 2026

Photo restoration has no single universal price. Two providers' published examples range from US$19 to US$60 per photo before applicable extras. These are specific offers, not a market average. The work included, number of people and amount of reconstruction matter more than the headline price.

With ImageRestoreAI, you can try a free preview and pay to access the restored result. Pricing is shown before purchase. A preview is not a recurring allowance of free downloads.

ImageRestoreAI photo credit packs: checked September 16, 2026

The public photo pricing page lists 3 credits for US$5.99, 10 for US$9.99, and 50 for US$29.99. These are prepaid packs, not per-photo quotes or recurring subscriptions. The approximate per-credit amounts are US$2.00, US$1.00 and US$0.60 respectively; those unit figures require purchasing the entire pack.

Review the current photo credit packages and final purchase amount. The previously advertised single-photo price is not listed on that pricing page. Photo packs are distinct from document restoration offers. Start with a preview rather than purchasing a large pack on the strength of an example alone.

What affects photo restoration cost?

Damage severity and missing detail

Removing a small scratch from a plain background is a different task from reconstructing a damaged face. Missing clothing, text or facial features may require interpretation and reference photographs. Paying more does not establish that reconstructed details are historically accurate.

Compare your damage with our scratched portrait example. Its notes distinguish visible repairs from changes to color and fine facial detail.

Color correction versus colorization

A faded photograph originally taken in color may need its color balance and contrast adjusted. Adding color to a black-and-white photograph is colorization. Ask which operation is included, and whether inferred colors are acceptable for your purpose.

The kitchen before-and-after example shows reduced orange-red tint, but its recolored clothing and textures are interpretations. For a step-by-step approach, read recovering faded color in 1970s photos.

Group photographs and additional work

Some providers charge for extra people or complex reconstruction. For example, FixThePhoto's published Standard price is US$30 for up to three people. Applying its listed US$12 extra-person charge gives US$42 for four people at that level, before any other applicable charges. This is an illustration of that published rule, not a quote for your photo.

Scanning, prints and delivery

Digital restoration works on an image file. If you only have a paper print, ask whether the service accepts an uploaded scan or requires you to send the original. Confirm scanning fees, delivery format, print size and shipping separately.

Use our DPI guide for scanning old photos to plan your digital copy. Keep the original scan alongside any edited versions.

AI and human services offer different amounts of control. An automatic preview helps you assess your own photo; a human service may be useful when you need detailed instructions, references or discussion of a difficult repair. Review actual examples rather than assuming either method always gives a better result.

Compare the total, not just a “per-photo” claim

Before buying, check:

  1. What you pay now: an individual image, a bundle, an ongoing subscription or an agreed quote.
  2. What the payment unlocks: the restored file, resolution, included outputs and any print.
  3. What is additional: extra people, colorization, reconstruction, scanning, shipping or revisions.
  4. What happens if the result is unsuitable: review the provider's current revision and refund terms.
  5. What happens to unused credits: check expiry and usage conditions if a credit package is offered.

For any package, divide its total price by the number of results you actually expect to use. A low advertised unit cost may depend on using the entire package.

Frequently asked questions

Is photo restoration free?

Some services let you try a preview before paying. At ImageRestoreAI, the preview is free and access to the restored result is paid, with pricing shown before purchase. Free preview access does not mean that all restored downloads are free.

Is scanning included in the restoration price?

Do not assume so. Ask whether the listed price covers work on a digital file only, and whether scanning or physical delivery is charged separately.

Does a more expensive restoration recover the exact original?

Not necessarily. Missing image information may be reconstructed by an artist or inferred by AI. Compare faces, text, clothing and colors with any references you have, and retain the unedited original.

Can I see results before deciding?

Start with our three reviewed before-and-after examples, then try your own photo. Compare its preview with the original and review the price before purchasing access to the result.
